Internet TrueDownloader - a nice open source download manager
This download manager is nice to see. There are many download managers out there and the majority of them that are "free" are adware or spyware and usually cost you some of your privacy or time killing popups. I installed this one and I immediately liked two things about it. One, it didn't put itself in the auto-run area of Windows. Later in the options area, I told it to start when Windows does. Two, it didn't install itself as an Internet Explorer BHO. Again, later in the options area of the program I told it to do that. It doesn't really need to do either one to work. If you don't want an auto-start and a BHO, then just start TrueDownloader and when you want it to work you just right click on file download links and copy the link. TrueDownloader will pop up and ask you what you want to do. I'm not sure how well the browser integration works or if it actually speeds up your downloads very much, but I do like it's management functions and I'll keep it around for a while. It's really hard to beat open source freeware.
